I spend far too much money on matcha lattes and the quality can vary so much. Some are sickly sweet, some are earthy and some are clumpy and not like a latte at all, depending on where you go. I’ve been meaning to make my own, so that I can make it just the way I like it and save some money in the process.
Vegavero sent me some matcha to try, which was a wonderful and welcome coincidence because I’m matcha mad. This stuff ticked the boxes for what I was looking for; organic 100% matcha powder with nothing else added. Look out for sugar or milk sneaking into some other matcha powder ingredient lists.
So I set out to make myself a matcha latte, but I didn’t have any milk and I never remember to soak nuts in advance to make my own. Plus nuts are pretty pricey and to be honest I couldn’t really be bothered with the fuss. If you can make milk from nuts then surely you can do so from nut butter, since it has already been blended, right? That’s exactly what I did and it was GOOD. So here’s my ridiculously easy, instant peanut matcha latte recipe.
1 cup hot water (recently boiled – I waited 5 minutes after the kettle boiled)
1/2 teaspoon matcha powder
1 tablespoon peanut butter (or any other nut butter)
1/2 teaspoon of sweetener to taste (I used agave)
Simply add all ingredients to a blender and whizz for 30 seconds to combine and it will froth up nicely. Simple as that. Enjoy, feel smug that you avoided an overpriced cafe version and wonder why peanut milk isn’t a thing because it’s bloody delicious.
