Golden Milk Recipe

This warm, creamy and comforting milk drink packs an anti-inflammatory punch and is a great caffeine alternative. Turmeric gives this its golden colour and it’s powerful stuff as it reduces inflammation in the body and can help prevent Alzheimer’s among many other diseases of the brain and body. The addition of black pepper increases its absorption dramatically so they’re a powerful pairing. Here’s my recipe for a nice spiced golden milk which incorporates both of them.

Ingredients

1 cup of milk (I used cashew milk)

1/2 teaspoon turmeric

1/2 teaspoon ginger

1/2 teaspoon of maple or date syrup, or sweetener of choice

A grind of black pepper

1/2 teaspoon coconut oil

Method

Add all ingredients to a pan and stir well while heating gently. Simmer on a low heat for a minute or two, then pour into a cup and enjoy.

This could also be cooled and served cold if you prefer. I like to sip it while warm and it’s not a bad latte alternative at all. I had mine with some blueberries for an additional boost of anti-inflammatory goodness.
